Postnatal Anxiety and Depression

Postnatal anxiety and depression can affect women during the first year after giving birth. A change in mood can come on suddenly or gradually over time.

Do you feel overwhelmed becoming pregnant or having had a baby? Has your mood changed affecting how you cope on a day to day basis?

1 in 5 women develop a mental health issue during pregnancy or the first year after birth. These issues are described as affecting the way you think, feel , behave and interact with others. It can feel very scary and consuming. Common maternal mental health issues include postnatal anxiety and depression.

How can counselling help Postnatal Anxiety and depression?

 

Counselling is one way of exploring these challenging emotions. We can help understand where they arise from, processed and thought through in a safe space together.

It is also one of the interventions recommended by the NICE Guidelines (2022).
